I can remember that moment.
We stood enchanted, mesmerized by the fading idea of lasting forever.
Of course we live within imperfection,
With the piercing curse of realism... Nothing last forever.
But I'll let my hair grow wild and you put on your funky blue sweater,
We'll photograph ourselves in a timeless manner.
Only hoping someone would see and have the same delusions we did,
"Those two lovers exist outside of time."
But like the dreaming child pressing his gum into the wall,
believing he's made his mark on the world,
our delusions crash like crystal on concrete.
Crowded by other fantasies.
Demolished by the realization that the world is a frozen tundra for young romantics.
So like the gum on the wall our dreams crust and deteriorate.
But we will always have this memory,
the two of us straddling 1962 and 2010.
